HON. KIUNJURI WARNS OF A PLOT TO SPLIT MT. KENYA VOTE

The Service Party Leader Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri has warned of a plot to scuttle Mt. Kenya votes in the forthcoming general election.

Speaking in Kiamariga village, Laikipia West, Kiunjuri says the appetite by presidential hopefuls to seek a running mate from the mountain is a well choreographed plot to ensure that the vote rich region is divided..

”na sisi watu wa Mt. Kenya, we should no longer be proud of ourselves, we are not kingmakers, we are swing votes. We have numbers, but in politics numbers never matter until there is unity of numbers.” Kiunjuri said

Mt. Kenya region with over 8million registered voters has in the recent past played host to country’s top politicians and 2022 presidential hopefuls, with each seeking to pick a running mate from the region, in a bid to capitalise on numbers..

”if there is no unity of numbers, nyinyi ni kama mtu mwingine yeyote tu, kwa hivyo msiende mkiringa huko nje ati mo wengi wakikuyu wameru na waembu, hakuna, mmesambaratika..saa hii Raila, musalia, kalonzo, Ruto wanataka running mate from mt.kenya, but what is the end result.” Kiunjuri said

Kiunjuri says the region can be a determinant of whether the country will go into an election re-run, depending on how united or divided the votes will be cast.

”hata hizo kura zingine zote mkapea Ruto, hatapita, there will be a rerun..no one can claim that they Garner enough votes for round one.”Kiunjuri said

Kiunjuri’s TSP has been holding party membership registration drives across the country, with an intention of seeking to offer alternative leadership

”what we shall not do is to fold this party. Tsp will be one big party.” Kiunjuri said

The Service Party leader was speaking during a funds drive in Kiamariga Catholic Church, Laikipia West, where he made a personal donation of Kshs. 250,000

POLITICAL PARTIES URGED TO CLEAN UP THEIR MEMBERSHIP REGISTERS

The Service Party (TSP) is among top ten political parties in the country which have fully complied with the political party act of 2016. This was revealed on Wednesday in a report by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties presented at the political parties compliance meeting with party Secretary Generals. TSP  Internal affairs Director Wambui Kimathi welcomed the good news in a tweet saying;

‘’Delighted that @TheServiceParty, according to a report by the @ORPPKenya is among Top Ten most compliant parties. The report was presented at the Political Parties Compliance Meeting with Secretaries General going on in Nakuru @Hon_Kiunjuri Congratulations TSPerians. #Twajiamini’’

The Act envisages realization of gender equality in the formation, participation and management of political parties .

Political parties are equally required to incorporate in their rules, procedures on mergers and coalitions. This means that a political party is at free will to merge with another party by either forming a new outfit or merging into an already registered party.

The law however cushions members of the merged parties to continue to serve in such elected office for the remainder of the term.

Other areas of compliance include procedure for changes to party particulars, internal party dispute resolution mechanism, and updated nomination rules for election of party officials, and nomination of candidates for elections.

During the meeting the registrar of Political Parties Ms. Ann Nderitu called on the political parties to clean up their membership register through appropriate technologies The Service Party has already embraced the technology

Ms Nderitu insisted on the need for parties to review their manifesto and ideologies to align

them with the challenges facing the nation.

HON. MWANGI KIUNJURI: ELECTION PREPAREDNESS IS PARAMOUNT FOR A PEACEFUL  2022 GENERAL ELECTION

The Service Party (TSP) Leader Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri has asked the government to adequately facilitate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), to give a credible and peaceful 2022 general election.

Speaking at Citizen TV Tuesday , Hon. Kiunjuri decried poor preparedness for next year’s general election saying that this might lead to chaotic poll. Kiunjuri pointed that many electoral legislations for next years general election are yet to be passed by parliament, a situation he says may be a recipe for delaying election.

“Elections are about preparation, Political players should come out and ensure we have a free and fair elections, am happy that the church has taken it over” Hon. Kiunjuri said.

His call comes at a time when IEBC is in the process of vetting commissioners who will oversee the election within the remaining 392 days.

IEBC has on the other hand assured that the general election preparedness is on course saying that all planned activities shall be achieved in the stipulated timelines.

Of concern is boundary delimitation and voter registration exercise within the remaining timelines owing to the fact that, there is constitutional amendment calls by a section of leaders through Bridging Bridges initiative, BBI. Though the initiative is been challenged in court,  it’s outcome might affect the set timelines for next years general elections.

At the same time kiiunjuri said he is ready to work with likeminded parties and leaders saying that TSP is positioning herself to this mandate.

“Most parties are only formed with agendas only geared to the elections and not pursued after the elections, TSP agenda is beyond the elections. As it stand the deputy president has our support not only because he is our friend but because his ideas and ours merge ” Kiunjuri said

Hon. Kiunjuri further called on Mt. Kenya leaders to ensure unity of purpose for the region to have a solid bargaining power in forming the next government.

“It is not about the numbers, it is about the unity of those numbers that make the region attractive to presidential candidates to consider one of their own in deputising him/her based on his or her capabilities” Hon. Kiunjuri said.

He said he is ready to ensure that the agendas he has for Kenya are articulated whether in opposition or in government.

HON. MWANGI KIUNJURI: TAXATION BURDEN IS NOW UNBEARABLE

The Service Party (TSP) Leader Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri now wants the government to seek other avenues of raising taxes, and reduce taxation on commodities used in every low-income household.

Kiunjuri said exacting more taxes on cooking gas and kerosine is adding to the pain of costly life.

Speaking in Timau, Meru county during a fund drive to but a church vehicle, Kiunjuri expressed his dismay that life has become unbearable for most households in Kenya, especially after the government introduced a 16% Value Added Tax on the commodity.

‘’The government has now gone for the life of common mwananchi’’.

Expensive gas will add to rising energy prices, effectively pushing up further the cost of living that rose to 16- month high in June.

‘’Mafuta taa, iko juu, na ndio inashape kila kitu..tafadhali serikali, tumefika mwisho sasa’’ Kiunjuri

His sentiments were echoed by Laikipia Senator John Kinyua who said that other tax collection measures should be absorbed to easy financial burden to low income earners.

‘’ …effects of covid-19 is already too much to bear, adding more taxes to that burden is denying Kenyans rights to basic needs because they can no longer afford’’ senator Kinyua.

Kenyan households have since June 2016 been enjoying low cooking gas prices after the Treasury scrapped the tax on LPG to cut costs and boost uptake among the poor who rely on dirty kerosene and charcoal for cooking…

‘’ What will happen is that people will start cutting down trees to get firewood’’ Hon. Kiunjuri

Before the introduction of 16% VAT, 13-kilogrammes of cooking gas was retailing at kshs. 2000.

Press Statement by The Service Party (TSP) on Party Leadership and state Politics

June 2nd, 2021 at Party Headquarters, Nairobi

Welcome to this Press Conference ladies and gentlemen.

In three days’ time on June 5th, The Service Party (TSP) will be exactly one year old since we became fully registered by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. As the leadership and members, we are proud of the growth and the presence we have established in that one year.

Today, we have had a meeting of the National Governing Council preceding one with our aspirants for parliamentary and governorship positions from 18 counties. Our deliberations have dwelt on our preparedness for the 2022 General Elections, acceleration of recruitment of party members and strong aspirants, a range of issues that will likely define the political landscape of Kenya in the coming months.

First, we would like to reiterate that TSP is a national grassroot party whose leadership and spread are testimony of the face of Kenya. For the last couple of months, TSP has been conducting member recruitments drive which has received tremendous support across the country and our numbers have grown in leaps and bounds. We once again thank Kenyans for their warmth and enthusiastic support.

With this support, our determination to continue building a formidable party is bearing fruit. And our membership and leadership is increasingly clear about its place and position both in Mt Kenya politics and in the country at large.

Mt. Kenya Unity

The Service Party is troubled by the growing East vs West political battle in Mt. Kenya region. Whereas the party supports divergent opinions from all political fronts, the current trend is a ticking time bomb to our unity, significantly dent our bargaining power. Our unity as a region is our strength.

The Service Party appeals to leaders from Mt. Kenya to form a front through which they can negotiate for the interest of the people. Even though we may differ politically, our people and their interests are supreme. We must not let any artificial divisions side  track us.

As a party, we will continue to unite Mt. Kenya region right from the grassroots. Our resolve is unstoppable. Our priority as a region should not be about who is best suited to speak on behalf of the community, but how to ensure that our people have money in their pockets. This can only be achieved if we prioritise putting in place strategies which will assist our farmers improve the quality of their farm produce, boost their businesses, a robust national discussion on how resources shall be generated just to mention but a few. Consequently, our message to Mt Kenya is this:

  • As we tout our numbers, we must recognize that strength can only be in unity. The minute we entertain divides of all kinds we lose our ability to make our votes count. That is not how elections are won neither is it an effective way of strengthening our ability to make the demands that we must make to those canvassing our support.

  • We recognize the very concerted efforts being made to win over the Mt Kenya vote. TSP’s position is that it must be the leadership and people of Mt Kenya making demands from those seeking our support and not vice versa. It will not be acceptable for other leaders to dictate what Mt. Kenya can or cannot get in establishing the next government or in prioritizing the concerns and aspirations of our people. We shall not be taken for granted.

  • As TSP We are in this for the long haul. We are investing energy and resources in building a strong political party which will never be folded, a party that will grow and nurture trusted leaders.

Going forward therefore we reiterate the following:

Every political party has a right to field candidates wherever it desires in the country. We do however know that Kenya’s politics have become coalition politics. Unless such arrangements are properly made and communicated by our Party organs,  The Service Party will field candidates across the country without fear.

CHANGES IN TSP LEADERSHIP

Finally, ladies and gentlemen, in order to strengthen our party’s leadership as we approach the General Elections, the National Governing Council which met this morning has endorsed Dr. Mwenda Makathimo as Party’s Secretary General and Dr Elianas Barua as his Deputy.

Dr. Makathimo is a renown land expert, who hails from Central Imenti, Meru County, and brings a world of experience in leadership. He is passionate about development programmes aimed at improving livelihoods through sustainable land and natural resources management

Daktari holds a bachelors of Arts degree in Land Economics, a Masters of Arts in Valuation and property Management and a Doctorate in Environmental Policy from the University of Nairobi.

Dr. Makathimo will therefore be the Party’s spokesperson.

Dr Barua is a member of The Service Party who hails from Gichugu, Kirinyaga county. He served as the member of the 11th parliament representing Gichugu constituency.

End.

LET US NOT GET EXCITED OVER CONSTITUTION (AMENDMENT) BILL 2020

The Service Party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri now says that Kenya will not be at a loss whether the Constitution Amendment Bill (2020) sails through or not.

Speaking during the burial of Susan Wanjiku Wanjuki who was wife to former Laikipia West MP Dr. Wachira Karani at their Kinamba farm in Laikipia, Kiunjuri said that as much as there are good proposals in the draft bill, the referendum should not be a matter of life and death.

“whether the amendments pass or not, we will still have a constitution. Kenya has a constitution in place”

Kiunjuri further said that it would save the country time and money if the referendum is conducted earlier than scheduled, a situation he says will also prevent politicians from dragging the country into unnecessary political noise.

“why don’t we do the referendum in March or April, we are not opposing. so wacha iletwe tupige kura mapema, na hiyo pesa wangetumia kufanya campaigns isaidie wananchi na njia zingine”

The Service Party had drafted a raft of proposals it wanted included in the draft bill, which according to the party leader, about 90% have been factored in.

“sisi watu wa Laikipia tumeongezewa constituency moja, mambo ya one man one shilling imewekwa. sasa tutapinga aje na tunataka watu wetu wasaidike..”

Other leaders present during the burial ceremony included Laikipia MP Catherine Waruguru, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, Laikipia West PM Patrick Mariru among other leaders.
