Kiunjuri: These are our irreducible minimums

The Service Party, TSP leader Mwangi Kiunjuri has now set conditions that determine the presidential aspirant to be supported by TSP.

Speaking during a breakfast show in a vernacular FM station on Tuesday, Kiunjuri says the memorandum drafted by TSP will be presented to presidential candidates, which will also form basis for discussion intended to bring together all Mt. Kenya leaders.

‘’That for us to support any presidential candidate, they must commit to supporting this agenda and the irreducible minimum in broad daylight/public’’ Said Kiunjuri

Top on Kiunjuri conditions is equality of the vote, where he says it must be achieved even if it means amending the constitution or existing statutes

‘’…this is a basic right in our constitution that needs to be assured and given effect. Inequality of the vote is a historical injustice that must be corrected without further delay.’’ Said Kiunjuri

Kiunjuri further demands that any presidential hopeful should state a formula that will address existing inequalities without oppressing other Kenyans.

TSP parliamentary and gubernatorial aspirants held a two days consultative meeting in Embu, where they drafted a raft of conditions for Mt. Kenya suitors.

‘’ On matters relating to the 2022 General election, we have agreed that TSP will field candidates across the country and will soon call for applications from interested and serious aspirants for the various elective positions. This meeting has also affirmed the National Governing Council’s decision that at the presidential level TSP will engage like-minded parties to establish pre or post-election coalitions.’’ Said Kiunjuri

The TSP leader says his mission is to see a united country, where every right is respected.

KIUNJURI: Elect leaders based on track record

The Service Party, TSP leader Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri has urged Kenyans to elect their leaders based on track record in the forthcoming general election.

Speaking in Naibor village, Laikipia North in Laikipia county, Kiunjuri said Kenyans must also elect a visionary leader who has a blueprint capable of transforming the country devoid of social status and political affiliations.

‘’ ile kitu tunauliza wakenya sasa, msichague kiongozi kwa sababu ametokea, na anaimba wimbo ya Fulani, eti uchaguliwe, kwa sababu uko TSP ama UDA. Tunataka kuchagua viongozi, waongee hapa mbele ya jukwaa, watu waamue.

Kiunjuri says every aspiring leader should outline their vision for the country in public, which he says should include practical solution to the problems facing Kenya, like unemployment and starvation.

‘’Lazima tuwakumbushe kitu moja, tunajua historia yenu, na sisi huwa hatusahau kama ngiri’’ said Kiunjuri

He said with proper planning, Kenya could be self reliant on food and have surplus for sale. With that, poor Kenyans would have time to concentrate on other income generating programmes.

“The Government should seek ways of providing farm inputs, fertiliser and seeds as well as loans at subsidised rates and later facilitate identification of markets,” Said Kiunjuri

Kiunjuri was speaking during a burial ceremony of a prison warden Francis Muthukia Wanjugu. Other leaders present during the ceremony include Laikipia North MP Sarah Lekorere, Laikipia county assembly speaker Patrick Waigwa, Laikipia North Parliamentary aspirant on a TSP ticket Maina Munene, Laikipia Woman Representative on a TSP ticket Beth Waithira among other local leaders.

CAMPAIGN SPENDING REGULATIONS BY IEBC REJECTED

The gazettement of campaign spending guidelines by the IEBC has stirred mixed reaction from legislators and aspirants alike, with a majority terming them as laughable.

During a committee session Wednesday, members of the delegated legislation Committee in the National Assembly unanimously rejected the regulations, accusing IEBC of malice.

MPs claimed that IEBC wanted to paint parliament in bad light for failing to pass the regulations yet they were gazzetted out of time.

Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi says IEBC submitted the proposals on campaign financing a few weeks ago and went ahead to gazette them yet the law says the regulations must be laid before parliament for approval before gazettement.

IEBC however insisted that they have followed all the procedures as required by the law as they had earlier engaged the committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, a process that had stalled.

The regulations were published in a Gazette Notice prescribing the amount of money political candidates and political parties will be allowed to spend in their 2022 campaigns.

According to the regulations whose fate is now in limbo, a presidential candidate’s campaign spending has been capped at Kshs.4.4 billion.

Those eyeing the Gubernatorial, Senatorial or Woman Representative seats also have their spending regulated, with Turkana County having the highest spending limit at Ksh.123 million followed by Nairobi (Ksh.117 million) and Marsabit (114 million).

Lamu County has the least spending limit at Ksh.21 million followed by Tharaka Nithi (Ksh.23 million), Elgeyo Marakwet (Ksh.25 million).

The Service Party Leader Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri has warned of a plot to scuttle Mt. Kenya votes in the forthcoming general election.

Speaking in Kiamariga village, Laikipia West, Kiunjuri says the appetite by presidential hopefuls to seek a running mate from the mountain is a well choreographed plot to ensure that the vote rich region is divided..

”na sisi watu wa Mt. Kenya, we should no longer be proud of ourselves, we are not kingmakers, we are swing votes. We have numbers, but in politics numbers never matter until there is unity of numbers.” Kiunjuri said

Mt. Kenya region with over 8million registered voters has in the recent past played host to country’s top politicians and 2022 presidential hopefuls, with each seeking to pick a running mate from the region, in a bid to capitalise on numbers..

”if there is no unity of numbers, nyinyi ni kama mtu mwingine yeyote tu, kwa hivyo msiende mkiringa huko nje ati mo wengi wakikuyu wameru na waembu, hakuna, mmesambaratika..saa hii Raila, musalia, kalonzo, Ruto wanataka running mate from mt.kenya, but what is the end result.” Kiunjuri said

Kiunjuri says the region can be a determinant of whether the country will go into an election re-run, depending on how united or divided the votes will be cast.

”hata hizo kura zingine zote mkapea Ruto, hatapita, there will be a rerun..no one can claim that they Garner enough votes for round one.”Kiunjuri said

Kiunjuri’s TSP has been holding party membership registration drives across the country, with an intention of seeking to offer alternative leadership

POLITICAL PARTIES URGED TO CLEAN UP THEIR MEMBERSHIP REGISTERS

The Service Party (TSP) is among top ten political parties in the country which have fully complied with the political party act of 2016. Political parties are equally required to incorporate in their rules, procedures on mergers and coalitions. This means that a political party is at free will to merge with another party by either forming a new outfit or merging into an already registered party.

The law however cushions members of the merged parties to continue to serve in such elected office for the remainder of the term.

Other areas of compliance include procedure for changes to party particulars, internal party dispute resolution mechanism, and updated nomination rules for election of party officials, and nomination of candidates for elections.

During the meeting the registrar of Political Parties Ms. Ann Nderitu called on the political parties to clean up their membership register through appropriate technologies The Service Party has already embraced the technology

HON. MWANGI KIUNJURI: ELECTION PREPAREDNESS IS PARAMOUNT FOR A PEACEFUL  2022 GENERAL ELECTION

The Service Party (TSP) Leader Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri has asked the government to adequately facilitate the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), to give a credible and peaceful 2022 general election.

Speaking at Citizen TV Tuesday , Hon. Kiunjuri decried poor preparedness for next year’s general election saying that this might lead to chaotic poll. Kiunjuri pointed that many electoral legislations for next years general election are yet to be passed by parliament, a situation he says may be a recipe for delaying election.

“Elections are about preparation, Political players should come out and ensure we have a free and fair elections, am happy that the church has taken it over” Hon. Kiunjuri said.

His call comes at a time when IEBC is in the process of vetting commissioners who will oversee the election within the remaining 392 days.

IEBC has on the other hand assured that the general election preparedness is on course saying that all planned activities shall be achieved in the stipulated timelines.

Of concern is boundary delimitation and voter registration exercise within the remaining timelines owing to the fact that, there is constitutional amendment calls by a section of leaders through Bridging Bridges initiative, BBI. Though the initiative is been challenged in court,  it’s outcome might affect the set timelines for next years general elections.

At the same time kiiunjuri said he is ready to work with likeminded parties and leaders saying that TSP is positioning herself to this mandate.

“Most parties are only formed with agendas only geared to the elections and not pursued after the elections, TSP agenda is beyond the elections. As it stand the deputy president has our support not only because he is our friend but because his ideas and ours merge ” Kiunjuri said

Hon. Kiunjuri further called on Mt. Kenya leaders to ensure unity of purpose for the region to have a solid bargaining power in forming the next government.

“It is not about the numbers, it is about the unity of those numbers that make the region attractive to presidential candidates to consider one of their own in deputising him/her based on his or her capabilities” Hon. Kiunjuri said.

He said he is ready to ensure that the agendas he has for Kenya are articulated whether in opposition or in government.

HON. MWANGI KIUNJURI: TAXATION BURDEN IS NOW UNBEARABLE

The Service Party (TSP) Leader Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri now wants the government to seek other avenues of raising taxes, and reduce taxation on commodities used in every low-income household.

Kiunjuri said exacting more taxes on cooking gas and kerosine is adding to the pain of costly life.

Speaking in Timau, Meru county during a fund drive to but a church vehicle, Kiunjuri expressed his dismay that life has become unbearable for most households in Kenya, especially after the government introduced a 16% Value Added Tax on the commodity.

‘’The government has now gone for the life of common mwananchi’’.

Expensive gas will add to rising energy prices, effectively pushing up further the cost of living that rose to 16- month high in June.

‘’Mafuta taa, iko juu, na ndio inashape kila kitu..tafadhali serikali, tumefika mwisho sasa’’ Kiunjuri

His sentiments were echoed by Laikipia Senator John Kinyua who said that other tax collection measures should be absorbed to easy financial burden to low income earners.

‘’ …effects of covid-19 is already too much to bear, adding more taxes to that burden is denying Kenyans rights to basic needs because they can no longer afford’’ senator Kinyua.

Kenyan households have since June 2016 been enjoying low cooking gas prices after the Treasury scrapped the tax on LPG to cut costs and boost uptake among the poor who rely on dirty kerosene and charcoal for cooking…

‘’ What will happen is that people will start cutting down trees to get firewood’’ Hon. Kiunjuri

Before the introduction of 16% VAT, 13-kilogrammes of cooking gas was retailing at kshs. 2000.
